Much like the technology used during pregnancy scans, commercial Ultrasonic Testing uses pulses of sound to create a visual reference that a trained operator can use to recognize and interpret flaws; in particular, in the world of metal fabrication it is used to identify flaws in welds and base material (such as mill defects).
