Summary

*Under Construction*

Firefly is a 49-foot fully electric catamaran currently under construction at Lyman-Morse for Upstream Alliance, a nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to environmental education and conservation experiences. Purpose-built to serve as a floating classroom and research platform, Firefly will operate on the Delaware River in Camden, New Jersey, offering students and educators an immersive way to engage with the natural world.

Designed for quiet, emissions-free operation, Firefly is powered entirely by electric propulsion. The catamaran’s wide platform and efficient hull design make it an ideal vessel for safely transporting groups, delivering lessons, and conducting field research. Solar panels will cover the cabin roof, supporting onboard energy systems and reinforcing the vessel’s mission of sustainability.

Lyman-Morse Fabrication is leading the aluminum construction and early systems integration, while the outfitting and final installation are taking place at our main boatbuilding yard. The project reflects our team’s passion for innovation, craftsmanship, and purpose-driven design — and represents a shared commitment to a cleaner future on the water.

From structural welding to the integration of advanced electrical systems, Firefly highlights the full range of capabilities offered by Lyman-Morse. We’re proud to be collaborating with Upstream Alliance on a vessel that not only breaks technical ground, but also serves a powerful educational mission.
